The bathroom, especially the shower cabin, is the most favorable place for mold to grow because warmth, moisture, and limited ventilation meet here. Daily routines such as showering or bathing release large amounts of hot steam into the air, which increases humidity levels. If the windows are not open or there is no fan, moisture settles on walls, tiles, grout, and ceilings, causing dampness and later mold.

One of the less frequently cleaned places is the tile joints (grout), where mold establishes itself very quickly. Therefore, it is very important to ensure the best possible ventilation, especially as the winter months approach. “Since there is no internal fan in my bathroom, one specific task helps protect against this problem,” says the woman.
“Although I keep the bathroom window open almost all day, after each shower or bath I wipe the moisture off the wet tiles with a special glass cleaner (squeegee). This stops mold growth because it removes excess water from the tiles and shower cabin before it soaks in or remains on the surfaces. Mold needs moisture to grow, so by quickly wiping the tiles and shower wall, I reduce the moisture that mold spores love,” the woman shares her advice.

Additionally, using a squeegee prevents water marks and lime scale buildup, so the shower wall always remains shiny. “This task takes only two minutes, but I have never seen mold in my bathroom – I think this is a great result considering there is no exhaust fan here,” she adds.
You can buy such a squeegee almost anywhere – in shopping centers or hardware stores.

Other ways to reduce moisture
Air dehumidifier. This is another way to reduce moisture at home. “It is especially important in the winter months when I dry laundry indoors. Air dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air, which would otherwise simply settle on the walls,” the woman notes.
Natural remedies. Baking soda and salt can also act as natural moisture absorbers on windowsills or near moisture sources if changed regularly.
Fighting lime scale. If you are bothered by water marks on the shower wall, you can remove lime scale with lemon juice and baking soda. Lemon juice is a natural acid that helps break down cloudy stains, and baking soda is a mild alkali that helps clean soap scum and dirt.
