According to the announcement, the investment will strengthen the network reliability in the Prienai and Marijampolė regions, ensure a backup communication channel for important network management and protection systems, and data transmission between the Kruonis pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant and the Bitėnai transformer substation.

“The installed fiber optic cable will provide a reliable backup communication channel necessary for the electricity network protection and management systems. The project will also contribute to greater technical resilience of the electricity transmission network,” said VERT chairman Renatas Pocius in the announcement.
