This is the latest geographical name change proposed by D. Trump. Last week, continuing the trade war with Canada, he suggested renaming Lake Ontario to “America Lake.”
Moreover, in January 2025, just after returning to the presidency, D. Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to “America Gulf.”
Neither Mexico nor Canada recognized these changes.
Many previous name changes started from what seemed like humorous remarks by the 80-year-old US president, which he later turned into reality.

In recent weeks, D. Trump has repeatedly claimed sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and even published a map marking this waterway as “new US territory.”
However, Iran has effectively closed this narrow waterway, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil is transported, in retaliation for the war that D. Trump, together with Israel, started at the end of February.
