Lithuanian national team remained in the lowest FIBA ranking position in the country’s history

In the updated ranking, Lithuanians have 801.3 points and are in 10th place.

This position is the lowest the Lithuanian national team has ever fallen to. Our country’s basketball players have never dropped out of the top ten in the FIBA ranking published since 2010.

However, now Lithuanians are only 2.3 points away from dropping out of the top ten – this is the smallest gap our national team has ever had from 11th place.

Lithuanians ranked highest at the end of 2015, when they were third in the world, behind only the USA and Spain.

Among European teams, Lithuanians are currently sixth: Germany, France, Serbia, Spain, and Turkey rank higher.

Several changes occurred in the top ten after the “window” ended: the French overtook the Serbs and took third place, while Turkey, the first team to secure a ticket to the World Championship, jumped up two positions (from 11th to 9th), pushing Brazil out of the top ten.

Lithuania’s opponents in the World Championship qualifying group hold these positions: Serbia – 4, Turkey – 9, Italy – 15, Bosnia and Herzegovina – 31, Iceland – 45.

The USA continues to lead the FIBA ranking. Americans have held the first place since September 2023.
