“In her work, tragedy, comedy, history, and irony merge into an exceptionally rich literary blend. I am very glad that she accepted the Laxness Prize,” he added.

O. Tokarczuk will be awarded a prize of 15 thousand euros and a commemorative medal. The award ceremony will take place on September 10 in Reykjavik. The prize will be presented by Iceland’s Minister of Culture Logi Einarsson.

The prize is named in honor of a Nobel laureate
The Halldór Laxness International Literary Prize is awarded to a writer who has gained international recognition and contributed to the renewal of the art of storytelling. It is named in honor of Halldór Laxness, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1955.
Olga Tokarczuk won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2018, and for her novel “Flights” – the International Booker Prize. She has also twice won one of Poland’s most prestigious literary awards – the “Nike” literary prize.
