One of Donald Trump’s earliest supporters, M. Yiannopoulos, who supported the president’s strict immigration policy, has recently distanced himself significantly from Trump’s movement.

The Department of Homeland Security stated to the news agency AFP that M. Yiannopoulos was detained on Thursday at New Orleans International Airport and deported from the country the next day by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

According to the department, M. Yiannopoulos, who arrived in the US in 2019 and overstayed his visa, received a final deportation order in July for “failing to appear at an immigration hearing.”

41-year-old M. Yiannopoulos became famous a decade ago as a gay free speech advocate and an opponent of “political correctness,” but was widely accused of racism and misogyny.

He wrote for the right-wing US news portal “Breitbart News” and supported Trump during the 2016 election campaign, but recently has criticized the US leader several times.

Right-wing opinion maker Laura Loomer praised M. Yiannopoulos’s detention, stating on the social network “X” that she was “the first to report the fact that Milo was living illegally in the US and inciting violence against President Trump.”

ICE is responsible for Trump’s strict immigration measures, and many Americans consider the agency’s methods brutal. In January, federal officers shot two American citizens protesting immigration raids in Minneapolis.

In September 2025, M. Yiannopoulos wrote on the social network “X”: “Full legal immunity for ICE officers when performing their duties.”
