There is no information that Mike Tyson has ever visited Ukraine in his lifetime, but now the former world boxing champion has paid tribute in his own way to the country defending itself from Russian aggression.
The 60-year-old American appeared at a boxing event in New York dressed in a vyshyvanka – Ukrainian embroidered shirt.
According to the “Kyiv Post”, M. Tyson expressed support for Ukraine during the Russian military invasion back in 2022, and he himself has a deeper connection with Ukrainians.
It is said that Camille Ewald played an important role in M. Tyson’s youth – an emigrant born in a Ukrainian village in 1905, who moved to the USA with her parents – Ihnat and Anastasia Ivashchuk – where they changed their surnames.
The woman was close to boxing trainer Cus D’Amato, who trained the young M. Tyson.
Starting his boxing path, he lived in the home of the trainer and the Ukrainian woman, and he considered the woman who took care of him as his own mother. M. Tyson stayed in their home in 1980 when he was still a teenager.
