“Regarding the dismissed boards of Vilnius-owned companies, I will say briefly – such a unilateral decision does not have the support of the Freedom Party,” the politician stated in a post on the social network “Facebook” on Thursday.

After the Labor Code was changed and employees were required to be included in company boards, and Vilnius municipality sought to avoid this obligation, it decided to dismiss and re-form the boards of five companies it owns from the end of October.
The director of the municipal administration, Adomas Bužinskas, admits that the city government does not agree with such a change in the law, which will come into effect on November 1. According to him, the new boards are expected to be appointed on October 30.
Changes await the boards of the companies “ID Vilnius,” Vilnius Development Company (VVK), “Miesto gijos,” “Grinda,” and “Vilnius Public Transport” (VVT).
According to V. Mitalas, such a decision casts a shadow over independence.
“This was done unilaterally, without discussion or warning. Municipal companies are not some private limited liability companies where such a method could be used,” he insists.
The Freedom Party, which has nine members in the capital’s council, is in the ruling majority together with the conservatives.
The “ID Vilnius” board started work in March 2024, the VVK and “Miesto gijos” boards in summer 2023, and the “Grinda” and VVT boards in May 2023. All were appointed for a four-year term, with five people working on each.
Amendments to the Labor Code adopted in June this year allow employee representatives to work on the boards of state and municipal companies.
