The creator of the Lithuanian Naval Forces Vytautas Kazimieras Urbas has died

The Naval Forces announced this on the social network “Facebook”.

V.K.Urbas was born in 1944 in the village of Daglienai, Pasvalys district, in a farming family. In 1949, together with his entire family, he was deported to Siberia for nine years. In 1970, after graduating from the Petrodvorets Higher Naval Electronics School, he served for seven years in the Soviet Northern Fleet.

After retiring, he worked at a research institute in Leningrad, where he designed warships.

In 1989, V.K.Urbas was elected deputy chairman of the Lithuanian Society of Leningrad, but soon returned to Lithuania. After the re-establishment of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, from June 1991 until his retirement in April 1999, he served in the Lithuanian Armed Forces and helped create the Naval Forces.

For his merits to Lithuania and the national defense system, V.K.Urbas was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Cross of Vytis, the 3rd Class Medal of the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas, and the Ministry of National Defense’s honorary badge “For Merits to National Defense”.
