Last year in the Klaipėda district, Sendvaris eldership, a new school was ceremoniously opened not far from the city. Even before the opening, the district mayor Bronius Markauskas stated that the “Saulė” school was built taking into account the rapidly expanding area and the growing number of new settlers. However, it was immediately predicted that one school in the eldership, where houses are constantly being built, would not be enough and “Saulė” would not be able to accommodate all those who want to attend.

The Klaipėda district municipality has already informed about plans to build another school in this eldership.
In the spring, the greatest outrage arose among the parents of fourth graders in the “Saulė” school community. They found out that their children, after finishing primary school, would again participate in the admission process to the fifth grade. This meant that not all could continue studying at the new school. Parents were most hurt by the lack of continuity and cited the neighboring Klaipėda city municipality as an example, where children who finish 4th grade automatically enter the 5th grade of that school.

Angry parents turned not only to journalists but also to prosecutors, asking them to defend the public interest and clarify whether the local authorities comply with legal acts.
