“Considering the measures implemented by the government, Americans will achieve nothing at this stage using economic pressure, just as they achieved nothing through war,” said M. Pezeshkian, quoted by the news agency ISNA.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent presented plans for Iran’s “economic strangulation” on Monday and warned of severe consequences for countries that do not join this campaign.
However, Iranian leaders dismissed the impact of the new measures, as they have already endured decades of exhausting sanctions imposed shortly after the 1979 revolution.
“Our principle is to understand and address problems through interaction and negotiations, but at the same time, we will firmly resist economic pressure, as we have done so far and will continue to do,” added M. Pezeshkian.
Negotiations between Iran and the U.S. have stalled, with both opponents fighting for control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Shipping through this vital waterway, which typically carries about a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports, remains largely paralyzed, disrupting global energy markets.
Iran has controlled the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on February 28 and seeks to tax ships passing through it.
The U.S. wants the pre-war free navigation system restored in the strait, and U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington “fully controls” this waterway.
