The tragic incident occurred in November 2023, when Dipakas reportedly encountered the group of monkeys while playing with friends near a temple in the Gandhinagar area of Gujarat.

One of the monkeys first scratched the child’s skin, then severely injured the boy with its claws.

After the attack, Dipakas was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life. The boy died before medical help could begin.

A local official told the news agency Press Trust of India: “During the attack, his intestines were torn out. He ran home and was taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed he was brought in dead.”

The monkeys responsible for Dipakas’s death were also linked to several other attacks on villagers and were still at large at the time.

The local official added: “This is the third monkey attack in the village in a week.”

It is reported that forest department officer Vishal Chaudhary confirmed that the authorities tried to catch the monkeys rampaging in the village.

“In the past week, we caught two langurs and set traps for another. There is a large group of monkeys in the village, including four adults who participated in attacks over the past week. Two of them have already been caught. Efforts are underway to catch another,” Vishal said.

Killed puppies

This is by no means the only fatal monkey attack in India. In December 2021, the forest department in the western Indian state of Maharashtra caught two monkeys that were reportedly killing small puppies.

Residents of the Lavool village in the Bido district of Maharashtra called it an “act of revenge.” They claimed the monkeys carried puppies into trees and onto roofs, then dropped them from heights.

In another case, it is reported that a reward of 21,000 Indian rupees was offered for the capture of a monkey. It was terrorizing people in Rajgarh city, located in the central Madhya Pradesh state.

The monkey reportedly attacked 20 people in two weeks. Rescuers used a drone to track the animal, then sedated it with special darts and confined it in a cage.

In another frightening case, it was reported that a monkey kidnapped a three-year-old child and carried him onto a cliff. Fortunately, after several hours of searching, the police managed to find the toddler. The child was safely rescued and returned to his parents, reports the New York Post.
