“Our goal worldwide is to cut off every economic lifeline supporting this tyrannical regime until Tehran is left alone,” said S. Bessent.

“We will hold everyone accountable, and this is the economic strangulation of this regime,” he stated.

He added that countries not joining US sanctions “will face the same isolation” as Iran, noting that Donald Trump is calling world leaders, asking them to cut ties with Tehran.

The Treasury Department said on Monday it had “made decisions regarding five critical sectors – digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping – which the Iranian regime uses to try to sustain its collapsing economy.”

Meanwhile, S. Bessent promised that any entity “helping to launder money on behalf of Iran will be removed from the US dollar system.”

Asked whether Chinese banks cooperating with Iran could be targeted, Bessent replied that “no one is immune from US sanctions.”

Earlier, the US Treasury Secretary declared that an “economic D-day” against Tehran began on Monday.

Nearly six months after the war began, both sides are at an impasse: peace talks are stalled, Iran continues to block the vital Strait of Hormuz, and Washington maintains a naval blockade against Iran.
