Stormy weekend for firefighters: over 2,500 requests for assistance in removing storm damage in two days, notes the Fire Protection and Rescue Department.

While firefighters continue to remove storm damage, the Fire Protection and Rescue Department (FPRD) offers assistance where electricity supply has not yet been restored. The service can allocate 192 mobile 2–3 kW generators. They are proposed to be provided to telecommunications infrastructure and other facilities where these power generators could help ensure the operation of critical systems. FPRD is already communicating with municipalities regarding the need for generators.
The storm was only part of the firefighters’ weekend work.
Besides removing its consequences, they performed 169 other rescue operations and extinguished 47 fires over the past three days. Two people were injured in the fires.
On Saturday at 21:36, a fire broke out in an apartment building in Kvėdarna town, Šilalė district, on Žalioji Street. The fire started in a pot left on the stove with oil catching fire, and the resident extinguished the fire himself. He suffered burns during the incident. Medical assistance was provided on-site. The fire damaged 1 sq. m of ceiling paneling, a cabinet, and a hood. A smoke detector was installed in the apartment.
On Sunday at 17:38, a fire broke out in an apartment building on Žardininkų Street in Klaipėda. When firefighters arrived, the apartment was burning with open flames. A man injured in the fire was found in the stairwell. After medical examination, he was taken to a medical facility. Five residents left the stairwell before firefighters arrived. The kitchen of the apartment burned down, and the apartment and common stairwell up to the ninth floor were scorched and smoked.









On Friday at 09:38, in Molėtai district, Balninkai eldership, Girsteitiškis village, firefighters rescued a roe deer that had fallen into a well. The rescued animal was released into the wild.
At 11:35 in Kaunas, on Islandijos Avenue, firefighters freed a child locked inside a car. The freed child was handed over to the mother.

At 14:35, a gas leak from a cylinder was reported in Vilnius, Stepono Kairio Street. Upon arrival, firefighters detected a gas smell in the basement of a two-story brick house. A man suffered burns after a flame burst while transferring gas from one cylinder to another. After examination by emergency medical personnel, he was taken to a medical facility.
At 22:23, police officers reported that in Neringa municipality, on the Nida-Smiltynė road, a wild boar was hit and trapped under a VW Touran car, and assistance was needed to remove the animal. Firefighters used improvised tools to extract the boar and towed the car to a parking lot.
On Sunday at 05:01, a report was received that a man on a boat in Kaunas district, Taurakiai eldership, Leonavas village, in the Kaunas Reservoir, could not return to shore because the oar broke and the boat was leaking air. Firefighters reached the person waiting for help, launched the boat, and safely brought him to shore.

Stormy Saturday and Sunday were busy for firefighters.









Most calls to remove storm damage over two days were received in Kaunas County – 659, Vilnius – 387, Utena – 330, Alytus – 247, Klaipėda – 206. Fewer requests for assistance were received in Marijampolė, Panevėžys, Šiauliai, Tauragė, and Telšiai counties than in the aforementioned counties: Panevėžys – 198, Šiauliai – 178, Marijampolė – 132, Tauragė – 116, Telšiai – 72.
Trees fell onto the roadway, cars, houses, and buildings. Not only trees but also various metal structures, roofing materials, and more fell onto cars.
On Saturday at 14:12, it was reported that in Trakai district, Trakai eldership, in Trakai, a tree fell on a house on Lukas Lane. Firefighters cut and removed the tree from the house.
At 16:09, in Vilnius, Architektų Street, a tree fell on an apartment building. Firefighters used a rope to pull the tree away from the building and cut it.
At 16:06, a report was received that in Anykščiai district, Troškūnai eldership, Mažionys village, a tree trapped a person. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the falling tree had trapped a fishing man. The man was declared dead. Firefighters cut the tree and freed the body.
On Sunday at 07:39, a report was received that in Vilnius district, Nemėžis eldership, Didžiasalis village, a roofing structure fell on 5 cars. Firefighters cut, dismantled, and removed the roof from the cars.
At 09:42, in Kaunas, Šarkuva Street, two cars were damaged by a tree that fell on them and on the roadway.
That day, four cars parked in Birštonas, Algirdas Street parking lot, were also damaged by a fallen tree. This was reported at 20:26.
