Officers have launched a pre-trial investigation to determine the cause of death.
According to the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, since 6 a.m. firefighters have received over 800 reports about trees or power lines fallen onto the roadway.
In the morning, the highest number of calls was recorded in Southern Lithuania, later moving to the central part of the country, and in the afternoon most reports came from Western Lithuania.
Firefighters are most often called to remove trees and broken branches fallen onto the roadway. There are also many reports of trees fallen onto power lines.
Meanwhile, according to the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO), the number of residents experiencing electricity supply problems has reached 155 thousand.
Due to power supply disruptions caused by bad weather conditions, some train delays are also possible.
According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, based on preliminary data, the strongest wind gusts were recorded at Ventė Cape and Nida by the sea.
A hurricane-strength wind gust reaching up to 33 meters per second was recorded here.
Strong winds were also recorded at the Klaipėda port, Šilutė, Kaunas, Kybartai, Lazdijai, and Šventoji.
At the same time, a torrential rain was recorded at the Šilutė meteorological station. According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, 83% of the August monthly precipitation norm fell there since morning.
The torrential rain threshold was also reached in Šiauliai.
It is forecasted that the wind in Southern Lithuania will start to calm down in the evening, and in Northern Lithuania – during the coming night.
