Meanwhile, “Mediazona” on the “Telegram” platform noted that this is the second time the Russian authorities have declared the portal a “foreign agent.”
The portal’s editor Yegor Skovoroda, who, like other journalists of this publication, now works outside Russia, separately called this ministry statement “incredibly crazy.”
This news portal was first declared a “foreign agent” in Russia in 2021, and the Ministry of Justice removed it from the register of media organizations allowed to operate in Russia.

In March 2022, shortly after Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian state communications regulator “Roskomnadzor” blocked the “Mediazona” website within Russian territory.
Russia has also filed criminal cases against several “Mediazona” journalists who currently work from abroad, including chief editor Sergey Smirnov.
The “foreign agent” label, which Russia sticks on those it considers state enemies, essentially prohibits a person from holding public office and forces them to register their activities with authorities.
