Ukrainian representatives explained why sanctions were imposed on the creators and distributors of the series “Masha and the Bear.” Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Combating Disinformation, stated that this cartoon forms a positive image of Russia for children.

According to him, this animated series is a global product aimed at children from different continents.
“The essence of this product is to form a positive opinion about Russia among children on different continents, as it has a global nature. It is targeted at children who will later grow up to choose governments and determine the course of their countries,” said A. Kovalenko.
The head of the center emphasized that Ukraine has long worked towards the introduction of these sanctions.

“Our international partners, especially the British, support such measures. We will cleanse the information space of this product, hopefully on a global scale as well,” added A. Kovalenko.
Sanctions on the “Animakord” studio
According to Ukrainian representatives, this animated series spreads pro-Russian narratives under the guise of children’s content and poses a threat to national security. Vladyslav Vlasiuk, advisor to the President of Ukraine on sanctions policy, emphasized the need to respond separately to Russian propaganda aimed at children and distributed through major international platforms.
The portal sfocus.ua recalled that on July 2, more than 50 British parliament members urged the government to review the broadcasts of the animated series “Masha and the Bear” and consider banning it. The parliamentarians stated that the cartoon could be a tool of Russia’s “soft power,” using Soviet military symbolism.
