The most job offers are for specialists in production, warehousing, logistics, and service sectors: locksmiths, warehouse workers, salespeople, drivers, freight forwarders, forklift operators, aircraft mechanics, mechanical engineering technicians, carpenters, electricians, as well as individual care and nursing assistant workers.
Employers are looking for employees in manufacturing, administrative and service activities, accommodation and food service, wholesale and retail trade sectors.
“Convenient geographical location and the district’s attractiveness to live and work help attract more young specialists and fill vacancies faster. The number of economic entities here is higher than in Vilnius district, and rapid business growth encourages the creation of new jobs and already surpasses the labor supply. The main labor market indicators in the district are better than the national average.
Residents find jobs faster, the duration of unemployment is four days shorter than the average in Lithuania, more people successfully retrain and remain in the labor market longer. Lower unemployment and higher employment indicate favorable conditions for residents,” said Employment Service Director Inga Balnanasienė.
However, high employment is influenced not only by business expansion – the number of companies grew by 17.6% over two years – but also by active decisions of the Kaunas district municipality aimed at improving residents’ quality of life. In Kaunas district, people looking for jobs are more often employed in highly qualified positions in business administration, sales, and marketing than in Vilnius or Klaipėda districts, and quite a few in engineering, IT, social services, education, and managerial positions.

According to I. Balnanasienė, competition for specific competencies is increasing in Kaunas district: “Our selection shows that manufacturing and technology companies are looking for quality, mechanical and other field engineers, technologists, chemical analysts, raw material planners, procurement specialists, business data analysts.
Such employees were sought by “Giraitės ginkluotės gamykla,” “Aconitum,” “Holmbergs Safety System,” “Dovista,” and other companies operating in Kaunas district. The more specific the competence, the smaller the pool of potential candidates, so a job advertisement alone is often not enough – the Employment Service actively searches for and directly approaches suitable specialists. Business expansion in Kaunas district is increasingly determined not by the number of jobs but by the ability to attract the necessary competencies.”
Entrepreneurship growth is also observed in the municipality – 1.3 thousand residents chose self-employment this year – 2.3% more than a year ago. Meanwhile, the country saw a 3.1% decrease.
By average salary, Kaunas district ranks among the top three strongest municipalities, right after Vilnius and Kaunas municipalities. In the first quarter of 2026, the average monthly gross salary in the district was 2,513.9 EUR and was higher than in 57 Lithuanian municipalities. In Vilnius district, this indicator was 2,344.6 EUR. In 2025, the average monthly gross salary in Kaunas district was 2,358 EUR, while in Vilnius district it was 2,169.8 EUR.
Residents successfully find better-paid jobs. The average salary of Kaunas district residents employed through the Employment Service was 1,806 EUR and was 13% higher than the national average. Last year, clients employed through the Employment Service in this district created nearly 30 million EUR of added value for the national economy – about 4% of the total added value created by the Employment Service, which amounted to 774 million EUR.
