The publication “Politico” reported on Monday that A. Burnham sent “several messages” via an unspecified communication channel to a person he believed to be White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, until he became suspicious.

However, A. Burnham, while visiting the city of Wolverhampton in the English Midlands, stated on Tuesday that nothing secret was discussed in those messages.
When asked if he was embarrassed to have been deceived, he replied: “No, because the correspondence was minimal. Nothing important and, frankly, I quickly realized that it needed to be reported, and I did so.”
“So I acted correctly. All politicians face such pressure and challenges, but I did everything right,” he told the media.

“Appropriate actions have been taken here and in the US,” he added.
According to two sources cited by “Politico,” the incident was considered serious enough for the UK embassy in Washington to raise the issue with the White House.
It is not known when the messages were exchanged or what their content was.
A. Burnham took over as Prime Minister from former Labour Party leader Keir Starmer on July 20.
