The former mentor and organizer of student trips abroad, R. Jakštis, was sentenced by the Kaunas District Court last December in this case to a consolidated final sentence of 4 years and 3 months of imprisonment. Later, the sentence was adjusted to 3 years and 8 months (as the appellate court softened the previous sentence).

Civil claims filed by the victims were also awarded.

It was then stated that R. Jakštis would have to compensate one of them 2,000 euros for non-pecuniary damage (the amount requested), and the other two – 3,000 euros each (these two victims requested 5,000 euros each, so the claims were only partially granted).

However, this decision did not come into force – the convict, who was already behind bars at the time, filed an appeal.

The Kaunas District Court, having examined the case on appeal, announced its own verdict on August 18.
