As the official explained, the Polish authorities and the military are already addressing how they will act in the worst-case scenario – a possible war with Russia.

Although active preparations for such a possible sequence of events continue, Warsaw hopes that it will never happen.

“We are preparing for war, hoping that it will never start,” emphasized the deputy minister.

“80% of Poland’s defense system capabilities are allocated for wartime, and only a small part of them can be used in peacetime. We are not strengthening the army because of media attention, we are building it believing that it must be ready to conduct national defense operations under very unfavorable conditions, and we must have the necessary means for that,” he added.

According to the politician, Poland is not only strengthening its defense capabilities but also preparing for possible aggression against energy and infrastructure.

As the deputy minister noted, what is much more realistic now is what could happen in the next few months – a new large-scale Russian provocation. C. Tomczykas did not provide more information about what exactly he meant.

He recalled the statement of NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Alexus Grynkewich, who noted that by 2027 Russia could restore its military potential and be ready for conflict with Europe.

As the deputy minister said, the Polish authorities no longer divide scenarios into “real” and “unreal,” but only into “likely” and “unlikely.”

“Today I will not give an exact date. A large-scale Kremlin provocation can fully happen within a few months,” he warned.

According to C. Tomczykas, the main factor remains unchanged so far – the course of events in the Russia-Ukraine war.

He guessed that currently Russia is not ready for war with NATO, but as he noted, that does not mean it will never happen.

“Moreover, we see: Ukraine has held back Russia – not to mention the entire Alliance’s potential. We must understand our strength,” the politician urged the allies.
