On the social network “Instagram,” K. Pirožnikas published a video capturing vacationers ignoring the bans and addressed the public with an important message.
“August 16th. Just one day after a tragic accident, the Baltic Sea is even rougher today – the waves are much stronger than yesterday. Despite the raised red flag, people are still risking their lives, ignoring lifeguards’ warnings, and trying to argue about the obvious danger.
Let’s be conscious. Let’s learn not only from our own but also from others’ mistakes.

Zmones.lt reminds that on Saturday, a huge tragedy occurred near the Palanga bridge – a 17-year-old young man from Poland drowned in the Baltic Sea.
The General Emergency Center received a report about a person drowning near the Palanga bridge at 20:11. Initially, it was reported that a man and three children were drowning; later it was clarified that they were minors and their father. Palanga lifeguards received the information at 20:13.
Lifeguards rushing to the scene transported one young man to shore on a jet ski from the bridge piles; the father and daughter reached the rocks near the bridge on their own. Information obtained from the rescued young man indicated that his brother immediately submerged underwater and was not visible on the water surface. Palanga lifeguards searched the entire accident area, but did not find the young man. Soon, firefighters, medical personnel, and police forces joined the search, and divers were involved in the water search.
Lifeguards said that immediately after the accident, vacationers on the beach held hands and formed a human chain, trying to wade into the water to find the missing young man.
The young man’s body was found at 21:22, 57 meters from the drowning site, about 3 meters deep, in a hole formed near the rocks. The arriving medics confirmed his death.
