Israel claims that the strike in Lebanon was targeted against the leader of Hezbollah

The Jewish state’s military reported that it “struck the central headquarters of the ‘Radwan’ forces,” referring to the elite Hezbollah unit, and added that “during this strike, the terrorist Ali Samiras Al-Hajas Hassan (Ali Samiras al Hadžas Hasanas), commander of the ‘Radwan’ forces battalion, was eliminated.”

The military also confirmed what it called a “claim” that “Hassan’s family was also at the military headquarters with him,” and added that “they (the family) were not the target of this strike.”

Lebanon earlier reported that at least eleven people were killed in Israeli strikes in the south of the country on Saturday, marking the deadliest attacks since agreements reached in June reduced the intensity of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health and the state news agency reported that seven people were killed in one of the airstrikes targeting a house on the outskirts of the village of Ansar, including three children, and two others were injured.

In a second strike targeting the village of Deir Zahrani, four people were killed and 17 others were injured.

The Israeli military stated shortly thereafter in a statement that it had struck “Hezbollah terror infrastructure in the Nabatiyeh and Ansar districts.”

The Jewish state’s military in that statement claimed that its strikes on Lebanon were a response to ceasefire violations committed by the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

The strikes “were a response to a gross violation of the agreement by Hezbollah when they attacked our forces in the agreed security zone,” wrote Israeli military spokesperson in Arabic, Lieutenant Colonel Ella Waweya, on the social network X.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah, after deadly strikes in southern Lebanon on Saturday, declared that Israel’s attacks on Lebanon would be “appropriately” responded to and called on the authorities to end “humiliating” negotiations with Israel.

“Israel must clearly understand that its attacks, violations, and attempts to impose a fait accompli cannot continue and will be met with an appropriate response,” the Iran-backed group stated in its statement and added that the Lebanese authorities “do not need to persistently continue down the humiliating path of direct negotiations and offer free concessions to the enemy.”
