With 100 m to the end of the event, the medalists were already clear. G. Galvydytė, who had been running in the middle of the group for a long time, made an excellent sprint on the outer part of the track and overtook her rivals.

The runner completed the distance in 1 min. 59.12 sec. and took fourth place. She overtook her closest rival, Briton Jemma Reekie, by just 0.03 sec.
