Introduced in 2019, the “Taycan” was meant to emphasize the Stuttgart-based company’s move towards a major transition from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles. However, sales are declining: from nearly 41,000 units in 2023 to just 16,000 last year and only 6,000 in the first half of this year.
The German business weekly “WirtschaftsWoche” reported that the “Porsche” employee council, representing workers’ interests, has essentially agreed with management to discontinue “Taycan” production.
“The company has decided to gradually phase out production of this model by 2030,” the publication writes, citing sources within the company.

“Porsche” did not respond to AFP’s request for comment on this report.
The “Taycan” is one of two fully electric “Porsche” models currently sold, the other being the 2024-introduced “Macan Electric” SUV.
Last year, “Porsche’s” operating profit fell by more than 90%, and the company announced job cuts.
