Final progress
First attempts. Mykolas Alekna already set a European Championship record with his first attempt! 69.89 meters! However, just a few minutes later Kristjan Čeh improved the record (70.83 meters). The previous record also belonged to Mykolas Alekna – 69.78 meters (2022).
Martynas Alekna and Andrius Gudžius are currently outside the top eight.
Second attempts. Mykolas Alekna and K. Čeh again throw very far but do not improve their results. Impressive results are also currently shown by German H. Janssen. Meanwhile, A. Gudžius briefly rose into the top eight but fell out again.
Third attempts. Mykolas Alekna lost the discus from his hands and, without waiting for the result, stepped out of the sector. Meanwhile, K. Čeh threw 72.51 meters, improving the championship record valid before this championship by almost three meters! Is the Slovenian already measuring the gold medal?
Martynas Alekna and A. Gudžius also made their third attempts – they did not improve their results and finished their performances in 12th and 9th places respectively.

Three Lithuanians are competing in the European Championship final for the first time since 1998, when Virgilijus Alekna, Romas Ubartas, and Vaclovas Kidykas fought for medals in Budapest.

Our athletes took different paths to the final.
World record holder Mykolas Alekna threw the implement 67.74 meters on his first attempt, recorded the best result in the qualification, and having met the final standard, went to rest. In Birmingham, he will seek his third career European Championship medal – in 2022 the Lithuanian won gold, in 2024 – bronze.
A. Gudžius caused concern in the qualification but finally threw the discus 62.54 meters on his third attempt and, finishing 9th, advanced to the final. Like the 12 years younger Mykolas, 35-year-old A. Gudžius also has a European Championship gold in his collection, which he won in 2018.
Martynas Alekna threw the farthest in the qualification on his first attempt – 62.29 meters, but had to wait until the end of the qualification to be sure of reaching his first career European Championship final.
The final also features the recent kings of the discus sector: the defending European champion Slovenian Kristjan Čeh and the Swede Daniel Stahl, who won gold at the World Championships in Tokyo last year.
All 12 discus throwers in the final will have three attempts each. After the third attempts, the top 8 athletes will continue the competition with three more throws.
