It is reported that the black box suffered thermal damage during the fire. Currently, specialists are working on restoring it and reading the information that may help determine the circumstances of the last minutes of the flight.
Several versions are being considered
The investigation is examining several possible causes of this aviation incident. However, so far none of the versions have been confirmed.
“We will make every necessary effort to objectively and as thoroughly as possible determine the causes of this aviation incident. The investigation must clearly answer the question of what exactly happened during the combat mission and what factors caused it. No version will be dismissed without thorough verification,” said Oleksiy Suchachov, Director of the State Investigation Bureau.
During the investigation, among other things, the technical condition of the missile used by the pilot against the enemy drone, as well as its suitability for use at the time of launch, is being checked.

In addition, investigators are clarifying whether the rules for flight preparation, execution, and aircraft operation were followed. The wreckage of the fighter, material from the crash site, and testimonies of military personnel are also being examined.
When the air disaster occurred
On August 10, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that on the same evening, during a combat mission in the Odessa region, a MiG-29 fighter of the armed forces was lost. The pilot successfully ejected and was evacuated to a medical facility.
A pre-trial investigation was launched into the plane crash under Article 416, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of flight or flight preparation rules, as well as aircraft operation rules, causing a disaster.
