“This is another moment of sowing discord and creating political intrigues by the conservatives, this time with harmful consequences for our foreign policy. Their desire to discredit and harm our relations with the USA at any cost is shameful and boundless,” said K. Budrys in a comment conveyed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“It is completely unacceptable to try to use embassy staff as tools for creating political intrigues, thus disrupting the work of the embassy and the ministry,” he added.

According to BNS information, the invitation from the Vice-Chairman of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee Žygimantas Pavilionis and former Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė to talk with TS-LKD members reached the entire embassy staff, using certain personnel members to spread the information.

Ž. Pavilionis confirmed to BNS that he communicates with embassy staff. Among other things, during the talks they have let slip about G. Varvuolis’s work, and I. Šimonytė said that she has not directly communicated with those working at the Lithuanian representation in Washington for a long time.

The portal “Delfi” reported last week that some embassy staff contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reporting disrespectful behavior by the ambassador, raised voice, and long working hours.

“Delfi” sources indicated that the staff also spoke remotely with the MFA’s general inspector, and allegedly there was also a conversation with the ministry’s chancellor, who promised concrete decisions to address this situation, but no investigation against the ambassador was initiated.

Among other things, the ministry told BNS that it is evaluating the information that appeared publicly and will make a decision within five working days on the possible initiation of an investigation according to the applicable legal provisions.

G. Varvuolis has been serving as Lithuania’s ambassador to the USA since August 1 of last year.
