„We adhere to the principle I expressed, and it was reiterated today during my communication with the president, that there should be no competition, but cooperation. The same issues can be addressed through the Government, through the parliament, through the president’s initiative,“ Mindaugas Sinkevičius told journalists on Tuesday after a meeting with President Gitanas Nausėda.

„Decisions have a course depending on who presents them. Just as the president wants Lithuanian pensioners to receive higher pensions, so does Sinkevičius want them to receive,“ he added.
According to the prime minister, an „agreement is approaching“ regarding the allocation of the „Sodra“ surplus to increase pensions.
„Is it a very big difference who presents it – the president or the Government? Some may think that authorship is very important, but for me personally, the result is important,“ said M. Sinkevičius when asked how he feels about the fact that the opinions of the president and the prime minister differ on some issues.
As BNS wrote, the Presidency at the end of July again urged the Government to provide a conclusion on the country’s leader’s proposal to direct part of the „Sodra“ budget surplus not to the reserve, but to additional pension indexing for the next year.
The president’s initiative has passed the submission stage in the Seimas, but the Government has not yet provided a conclusion.
Social Security and Labour Minister Inga Ruginienė said on Monday that a plan is being prepared on how pensions will be additionally indexed over the next two years. According to her, in 2027 they could increase on average by no less than 10 percent.
M. Sinkevičius stated in July that the Government supports the president’s proposal, but most likely a smaller portion of the surplus – 15 percent – will be proposed for this purpose.
The president’s advisor Vaidas Augustinavičius last week called such a proposal a good compromise.
In turn, Finance Minister Taurimas Valys said he could not promise that part of the „Sodra“ budget surplus could be directed to pensions. According to him, the proposal would be implemented if state finances allow.
