Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree stated that the group “managed to attack the Aramco oil refinery in Jizan with a drone, and the strike was precise.”
He added that the attack was carried out in response to Saudi Arabia’s drone incursion into northwestern Yemen.
“Aramco” is the state oil company of Saudi Arabia.
The ceasefire reached in 2022 in the Yemeni civil war, in which Saudi Arabia has been involved for over a decade supporting the internationally recognized government, seems to have collapsed last month. The Houthis declared a naval blockade on their northern neighbor and began attacking Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.
The Houthis control large parts of Yemen, including the capital Sana’a and areas near the border with Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea provinces.

The threat to shipping and Saudi oil facilities in Yemen arises alongside Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. This region has become a major flashpoint of tension between Tehran and Washington, as efforts are made to end the war in the Middle East, which the US and Israel initiated in February.
Earlier, the Saudi Ministry of Energy reported that civil response teams had controlled the fire at the Jizan oil refinery but did not specify the cause of the fire.
In July, this facility was also targeted by Yemeni Houthi rebels.
“Saudi Aramco’s industrial safety firefighting teams extinguished a fire that broke out today, Sunday at dawn, at one of the facilities belonging to the Saudi Aramco oil refinery in Jizan. There are no casualties,” the ministry stated.
