The embassy noted on its website that it is “obvious” that this incident at Leipzig-Halle Airport in the east “serves only the interests of the militaristic wing of Kyiv and the European political establishment.”
Early Wednesday morning, a drone with explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane at this airport, and another aircraft in the air collided with an unidentified object.
This airport is the base of the Ukrainian airline “Antonov Airlines.” It is also one of the most important cargo hubs in Europe and is important for military logistics. Among other things, military cargo from the German armed forces and NATO allies is transported through this airport.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz convened the national security council on Friday to discuss this incident, which has again raised concerns in the country about possible security gaps.
The Russian embassy in Berlin expressed concern about a possible “new wave of anti-Russian hysteria in Germany.”

German officials did not accuse Russia or any other specific entity of this drone, but Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt called the incident a hybrid attack that may have involved a “foreign state.”
Since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Germany has been and remains one of Kyiv’s most important supporters, and German leaders and security officials have repeatedly accused Moscow of conducting sabotage, espionage, and disinformation campaigns in Germany and across Europe.
“The main danger Germany faces today is not the alleged ‘hybrid attacks’ from Moscow, which do not actually exist, but rather politicians who enthusiastically create scenarios of an impending war with Russia and propose that German citizens participate in it,” the Russian embassy noted.
