The Poznań District Prosecutor’s Office is supervising an investigation conducted by the Central Cybercrime Bureau (CBZC). The investigation was initiated following an incident detected at the end of last week involving unauthorized access to network systems.

According to “Żabka,” the breach was carried out through a compromised external service provider account. The attackers targeted technical resources used to exchange information between the corporation’s franchisor and individual franchise representatives.
In response, the company stated that the intrusion was immediately detected and blocked. The incident was reported to the Polish Personal Data Protection Office (UODO) and law enforcement agencies.
Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski praised Żabka’s swift response on the social network “X.” He emphasized that the breach did not affect the data of users of the mobile app “Zappka,” had no impact on operational systems, and did not disrupt store operations.
Despite official assurances regarding customer security, the independent Polish cybersecurity portal “Niebezpiecznik” reported that employee, partner, and possibly some customer personal data was leaked due to this breach.
Cybercriminals offered the stolen data for sale at an unusually low price of 5 thousand euros, according to “Niebezpiecznik.” As one of the blackmail tactics, the attackers sent emails with details about the breach directly to Żabka’s business partners and journalists.
Moreover, sample files published by the hackers show that they gained access to the company’s “Jira” system. This project management platform is used for the development of Żabka’s network software and monitoring of technical disruptions.
Żabka operates the largest franchise-based store network in Poland, consisting of thousands of traditional stores as well as autonomous, cashier-less “Żabka Nano” stores.
