In Bad Doič Altenburg in Eastern Austria, a temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius was recorded, surpassing the previous record of 41 degrees, which was recorded in Vienna on Tuesday, the national meteorological agency “GeoSphere Austria” reported.
Meanwhile, in Slovakia, a temperature of 41.4 degrees was recorded in the village of Kamenica near Hron in the southwest of the country, surpassing the previous record of 41.3 degrees recorded in the same village in June, noted the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) in a statement sent to the AFP news agency.
These records were set during an exceptionally hot and dry weather period, during which several local temperature records were already broken in Central Europe.
Austria recorded the fourth warmest July in the history of observations, and in some measuring stations, the lack of precipitation reached 90%, the meteorological agency reported.
In Slovakia, the all-time temperature record for June has already been broken twice.
According to experts, climate change has intensified drought across Europe this summer, and extreme heat has led to exceptionally dry conditions.
