“Two children and an elderly woman were killed in Sumy last night during Russian (guided aerial bomb) strikes,” Oleks Hryhorov reported on the Telegram platform.
“The girls were five and 10 years old. The children’s bodies were pulled from under the rubble of their house,” he said.
Six guided aerial bombs hit civilian infrastructure in the city, including residential and non-residential buildings, said O. Hryhorov.
In another attack in the southern Ukrainian port city of Mykolaiv, an 89-year-old woman was killed, said the head of the regional military administration, Heorhiy Reshetilov.
At night, Russia launched 136 drones into Ukraine, of which 117 were shot down or intercepted, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
The United Nations (UN) reported that civilian casualties in this war increased in 2026. The four-and-a-half-year-long war continues with no signs of a peace agreement.
Drone strikes in Russia
Meanwhile, fires broke out in an industrial zone near the capital in Russia due to a drone strike, killing five people and injuring another 10, reported regional governor Andrey Vorobyov.
Drones also damaged a warehouse near Krasny Bor in northwest Russia, said Leningrad region governor Alexander Drozdenko. One person was reported injured.
“Wildberries” reported that a fire broke out at its Krasny Bor logistics center due to the attack.
Another “Wildberries” warehouse became the target of a Ukrainian drone attack in a rural area near Emaus, about 180 km northwest of Moscow, said regional governor Vitaly Korolyov.
“Wildberries” is a very popular online retail platform in Russia, often called the Russian “Amazon,” which, according to Russian media, accounts for up to 10% of the country’s total retail turnover.
Since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, “Wildberries” has been accused of helping Russians evade Western sanctions by importing branded goods through third countries.
Ukraine has intensified attacks on “Wildberries” warehouses in recent weeks.
Ukraine launches hundreds of drones into Russia almost every night in response to Russia attacking Ukrainian cities and towns with hundreds of its drones and dozens of missiles.
Russia launched a large-scale offensive against Ukraine in February 2022 and regularly attacks its neighbor, including from the Crimean Peninsula.
Moscow-appointed officials in Crimea reported on Tuesday that one soldier opened fire and killed a comrade and three civilians.
The front lines in Ukraine changed little in July, as its forces essentially stopped the Russians, according to an analysis of data by the War Studies Institute (ISW) conducted by the news agency AFP.
