In 2026, after removing FK “Riteriai” main and reserve teams from the Top League championship and the II League A division, a situation not foreseen in the competition regulations arose regarding the transfer of teams between leagues.

According to the adopted decision:
- the winner of the 2026 I League season will directly enter the 2027 Top League;
- in the playoff matches for a place in the Top League, the teams that finished 9th in the 2026 Top League and 2nd in the I League will compete;
- three teams, not two, will be directly promoted from the II League A division to the 2027 I League;
- in the playoff matches for a place in the I League, the teams that finished 14th in the 2026 I League and 4th in the II League A division will compete;
- four teams, not two, will be promoted from the B division to the 2027 II League A division.
Thus, in 2027, the Top League will have 10 teams, and both the I League and II League A division will have 16 teams each.
The II League B division will, as usual, be formed based on the number of teams registered to participate in the competition.
“After removing the main and reserve teams of the ‘Riteriai’ club, an undefined situation arose in the regulations that required review and clarity regarding the movement of teams between leagues,” said LFF president Edgaras Stankevičius.
– We aim to familiarize all teams with the changes as early as possible so that everyone who is fiercely fighting for the top positions will know what awaits them in the next, 2027 season.”
