The owner of the airlines „Swiss“, „Brussels“, „Eurowings“ and „Lufthansa“ stated that costs increased by about 750 million euros due to higher fuel prices.
„The second quarter was characterized by exceptionally high fuel costs and increased geopolitical uncertainty,“ said „Lufthansa“ CFO Till Streichert. „We are confident that the consistent implementation of our strategy, cost discipline, network optimization and continued strong demand will offset a large part of the cost increase.”
This news means that „Lufthansa“ has become another airline hit by rapidly rising jet fuel prices due to the war in the Middle East.

The parent company of „British Airways“, IAG, reported last Friday that its net profit fell by more than a third, while „Air France-KLM“, „easyjet“, „American Airlines“ and „Ryanair“ all reported sharply reduced profits last month due to the war.
„Lufthansa“ revised its annual forecast and now expects operating profit to range from 1.7 to 2.2 billion euros this year. Previously, the company expected operating profit to be significantly higher than last year’s figure of 1.96 billion euros.
