“The United States is rapidly escalating tensions in the region,” said Ali Abdollahi, head of the Central Command of the Iranian military.
“Any country serving as a defensive shield for the criminal and aggressive US will be engulfed in the flames of war,” his statement said, which was read on state television.
These comments came after US President Donald Trump once again repeated threats to strike Iran “very strongly.”
US media reported that he is considering renewing strong strikes as early as this weekend, including on energy infrastructure.
This week, after several days of ceasefire, Iran and the US resumed nighttime shootings, although no strikes were reported from Friday to Saturday.
The war in the Middle East began on February 28, when the US and Israel attacked Iran, which responded with missile and drone strikes across the region.
