On Thursday, according to a study published by the Polish Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS), the proportion of adults declaring complete abstinence has increased by 7 percentage points since 2019.

At the same time, the share of respondents who said they consume alcohol decreased to 73 percent, reports “TVP World”.
If they drink – it’s wine, not beer
Wine has overtaken beer and become the most popular alcoholic beverage in Poland – 32 percent of respondents indicated they drink it, which is 7 percentage points more than seven years ago.
Beer was consumed by 30 percent of respondents, and vodka by 13 percent.
Explained why they gave up alcohol
The most common reason for giving up alcohol is health considerations: 57 percent of abstainers indicated this. 51 percent said they simply did not feel the need to drink. Among 18-24 year olds who no longer drink, this figure rose to 79 percent.
The study also revealed changing public attitudes towards alcohol. About 60 percent of respondents said that alcohol harms health even in small amounts, and 88 percent agreed that you can have a great time without alcohol.

Support for non-alcoholic social gatherings among the 18-24 age group was 97 percent.
CBOS also found that men consume alcohol more often than women. Almost a third of men who consume alcohol reported drinking it at least once a week, while among women who consume alcohol – only 7 percent.
The study showed that people with higher education and members of households with the highest incomes also consume alcohol more often than average.
