After the incident, Polish authorities launched an investigation.
Polish officials earlier on Thursday reported that in the eastern Lublin region, following an explosion caused by Russia launching new missile attacks against neighboring Ukraine, there was a crater about 10 meters in diameter. The missile fell near the village of Tarnawa Kolonia in eastern Poland, located about 80 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

“There are all signs that it was a Russian (…) Kh-101 missile, but we want to be 100% sure about the missile type and who launched it,” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
NATO later confirmed the origin of the object and in an email sent to “TVP World” stated: “In response to a currently unknown type of Russian missile that entered Polish airspace and later fell on Polish territory – one of many missiles Russia launched overnight at Ukraine – NATO and Poland activated their air and ground defense systems.”
“NATO is closely cooperating with Polish authorities regarding the violation of Polish airspace,” the letter added.
Visiting the incident site, D. Tusk said there “is no reason to believe that Poland was the intended target of this missile.”
