Three people were found near Dunkirk after a boat was reported around 6 a.m. local time and rescue teams were dispatched, the Manche and North Sea maritime prefecture said. These people were taken off the boat and brought ashore, where their deaths were confirmed.
In another incident late Wednesday near Hardelot, on the northwest coast of France, a small boat capsized, the Pas-de-Calais prefecture reported.

“Preliminary data indicate that one man, believed to be 30–40 years old, died, and six people, including a one-year-old child, suffered minor injuries and were treated by emergency services,” the prefecture said.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.
