Last autumn, the current prime minister had started to lead the party’s local government election headquarters, but soon these duties are expected to be taken over by the mayor of Vilnius district, Robertas Duchnevičius.

The party vice-chairman confirmed to 15min that he discussed this possibility with M. Sinkevičius at their meeting on Monday. “If needed, I will have to go. It’s not the first time,” said R. Duchnevičius, who led the party’s election headquarters during the parliamentary elections.
However, the mayor of Vilnius district added that the decision regarding these duties still needs to be approved by the party council, which will most likely be convened only in the autumn.

R. Duchnevičius assured that the changes are natural and aim to ease the busy schedule of the government and party leader. “We discussed it, but how it will be is still unclear. If needed and there are no other options, maybe I will have to lead? For now, I am not saying yes or no, we will see,” cautiously considered the future party election strategist, who himself has not announced whether he will seek another term as mayor.
