As in previous years, disputes over wages and related amounts dominated the number of claims filed and examined (about 71% of all claims). In second place were disputes over the legality of dismissal, in third place – over the terms of the employment contract, in fourth place – over compensation for non-material damage, in fifth place – over compensation for material damage, and in sixth place – over working and rest time.

Irina Janukevičienė, head of the Labor Disputes Commissions’ Work Organization Department at VDI, notes that compared to the first half of last year, there were many more claims related to psychological violence (almost twice as many), working and rest time, employment contract terms, and compensation for non-material damage. The number of certain less frequently examined claims also increased, for example, claims to examine collective disputes over rights, claims related to gender equality and discrimination, and others.
About 95% of the examined requests were submitted by employees. Most labor disputes (about 25%) were with companies in the transport and storage sector, second place (about 20%) – with companies in the construction sector, and third place (about 13%) – with companies in the manufacturing sector.
Labor disputes involving foreign nationals accounted for about 19% of all examined labor disputes. The majority of these were with third-country nationals: from Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ukraine, Tajikistan, and other countries.
In the first half of 2026, about 31% of all examined claims were resolved in favor of the claimant, i.e., the claims were fully or partially satisfied. About 25% of claims were resolved by settlement agreement, about 17% of examined claims were dismissed, and about 13% were cases where claimants withdrew their claims before or during the labor disputes commission session.

I. Janukevičienė is pleased that about 38% of all cases achieved the main goal of the labor disputes commission – the dispute ended peacefully (with the parties signing a settlement agreement) or the claimant withdrew the claims before or during the labor disputes commission session.
In the first half of this year, the labor disputes commissions awarded about 8.52 million EUR in favor of employees and about 0.04 million EUR in favor of employers. Compared to the same period last year, the total awarded monetary amounts increased by about 1.7%.
Summarizing the results, the department head emphasized the importance of labor disputes commissions and the growing awareness of employees: “Employees actively defend their rights, the number of labor disputes shows their increasing awareness and trust in the work of labor disputes commissions, which is extremely important to ensure that violated rights are properly protected.”
