Meta said in a released statement that as artificial intelligence capabilities grow, it becomes easier to create content, profiles, and messages, so the company wants to give users a way to recognize whether there is a real person on the other side of the account.

It is important that the new checkmark is not intended to show that the account belongs to a famous person, brand, or public figure.
This time its purpose is different – to confirm that there is a real person behind the profile who has completed identity verification and meets Meta’s trust and safety requirements.
The user will need to record a short video selfie
To get the Facebook Verified badge, the user will have to complete a short video selfie verification.
Meta says the system will compare the recorded image with the photos on the profile and confirm whether they match.
According to the company, this is a free process that usually takes just a few minutes.
The system designed for identity verification should help users more easily distinguish real profiles from potentially fake ones.

After successfully verifying the account, the blue badge will be displayed in several Facebook places – the Marketplace, the Dating section, groups, and the user’s profile.
Later, Meta plans to show the badge next to posts in the news feed as well.
The company emphasizes that the badge is not a guarantee that the user is trustworthy and does not mean that Facebook recommends them. It only shows that the account owner has completed identity verification.
Not for all users
Facebook Verified will be available to users aged 18 and over whose accounts meet Meta’s community standards – including requirements related to fraud, deceptive activity, and inauthentic behavior prevention.
This system will initially be available only to some users in selected markets, and later Meta plans to expand it.
The new program is not the same as the paid Meta Verified subscription introduced in 2023.
The new Facebook Verified checkmark has no subscription fee and is only intended to show that the user has verified their identity.
