The administration of President Donald Trump earlier this month imposed tariffs on Brazil in two stages, which left-wing president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, seeking re-election, condemned as interference in the elections.

“On July 27, Brazil requested consultations with the United States under the WTO dispute settlement system,” the ministry said in a statement, noting that Brazil considers the US measures “unjustified and inconsistent” with international trade rules.
