“When I went to Maxima, I was surprised – I found ‘Lidl’ ice cream in their freezer! I immediately thought that they must be really good if even competitors are selling them. I wonder if they will now always be in Maxima’s assortment?” the reader wrote.

“Maxima”: about 60 stores received ice cream by mistake

However, Maxima explained that this was not a new addition to the assortment, but a logistics error.

“In this case, there was a mistake in the supply chain between the supplier and our partner providing warehousing, order picking, and delivery services. Some ice cream intended for another retail chain was mistakenly delivered together with goods meant for Maxima stores,” commented Ernesta Vareikytė, Maxima’s media relations manager.

According to her, about 60 Maxima stores received ice cream intended for another retail chain. However, most employees noticed the mistake before the products were taken to the sales floor, and only in a few stores did the ice cream end up in the freezers.

“Since these ice creams are not in Maxima’s assortment or system, no product was sold to customers,” emphasized E. Vareikytė.

She said the mistakenly delivered ice cream has already been removed from the stores, and processes have been reviewed together with the supplier and logistics partner to prevent similar situations in the future.
