This so-called superweapon, according to Russian authorities, has exceptional features: it is said to be impossible to intercept, has an almost unlimited operational range, and can cause a radioactive tsunami.
“Take, for example, ‘Poseidon,’ which we have talked about more than once – essentially, it is also an unmanned underwater vehicle, and its preparatory work has reached the final stage. We are already taking steps to complete the work and include it in combat duty,” he said on Sunday during a meeting with Russian Navy servicemen in Saint Petersburg.
Last October, while visiting the P. Mandryko Central Military Clinical Hospital, the Russian leader stated that Russia had conducted tests of the “Poseidon” torpedo.
In March 2026, Russian President’s aide Nikolai Patrushev also confirmed that Russia successfully conducted tests of this underwater unmanned vehicle, emphasizing that the Navy is capable of defending the country’s national interests and ensuring defense at sea.
The development of this multifunctional weapon was announced by the Russian Navy leadership back in 2018. However, the first mention of such a weapon under the code name “Status 6” dates back to 2015.
Meanwhile, Russian Navy Commander Admiral Alexander Moiseyev boasted on Sunday about the new Russian superweapon “Poseidon,” which, according to declared characteristics, will be able to carry a 500-ton payload and cross oceans.
So-called Russian military bloggers were not impressed by this news. In their opinion, the military currently needs small unmanned boats to protect warships in Sevastopol and Novorossiysk much more than another utopian project.

“Complete nonsense and a pointless waste of the country’s money. Money that, for example, is very much needed to complete our anti-aircraft defense system to fight drones. Or to supply frontline soldiers with vehicles, electronic warfare equipment, socks, underwear. ‘Poseidon’ is a dead end, a waste of money, and sabotage against our own economy,” wrote blogger Maksim Kalashnikov on his Telegram channel.
The former chairman of the so-called “Novorossiya parliament,” Ukrainian traitor Oleg Tsaryov, agreed with the military blogger’s views and said he “feels very sorry.”
“Now is the time for cheap and effective unmanned weapons. But we will not create a small, fast, and cheap unmanned ship. We will create a marine superdrone. We will spend billions. They try to convince that supposedly no one else has such a thing…
This, to put it mildly, is not accurate. The US has had the tested “Sea Hunter” for several years and is now building the “MUSV” series – also 500 tons, intended for the same anti-submarine warfare tasks. China has its own “Sea Hunter” clone. So analogues have existed for a long time.

The well-known military blogger on the “Dva Majora” channel emphasized that the failure to admit mistakes also leads to no actions being taken to correct them.
“However, the admiral’s office is beautiful, like a museum, probably allowing one to relax a lot during hard work and imagine oneself among the great Russian naval admirals,” the channel author reacted to Admiral A. Moiseyev’s statement.
