“The whole intrigue, which garnered a huge number of views, revolved around my alleged permanent departure to Belarus and an attempt to escape so that my wives would not take the children away. It was just an impromptu joke,” G. Volkavičius told Žmonės.lt.

According to the man, he himself did not expect that the joke he made would cause such a stir and that people would believe it so easily.

“I didn’t plan to talk about such things, but I shared a post that we are leaving for Belarus. Someone commented: ‘Why?’ Then the idea immediately came to me to create a story that I am hiding the children and trying to protect them so that they would not be taken away. I wrote such a comment, and everyone latched onto it,” he recounted.

Although the entire escape story was fabricated, G. Volkavičius does not hide that a much deeper message and sensitive personal experience lie beneath this stunt. The man reveals that he still feels resentment due to the institutions’ attention to his unconventional family.

“I caused a stir, but when joking and creating such situations, I always have a deeper thought – a certain context is subconsciously important to me. When child protection services once found out that I have three wives in my family, an interest in our family began. Many people complained about us. Of course, they found nothing, and it all ended there, but the resentment remains to this day. In my opinion, parents should not be terrorized like this – they should not feel as if they are not the masters of their own children.

That is your child. As Filipinas say, the child rights system in the form it exists here is generally incomprehensible to them. Such things do not exist there – there are parents who completely decide for their children. But in our country, it is different. It is difficult for Filipinas to understand and accept this, but these are the laws in force here,” he stated.
