Local police state that they have identified the suspect, but he has not yet been apprehended. Officials describe him as “associated with an Islamist movement.”
Berlin police stated that the suspect is a 21-year-old man, Abdul B., “of slender build” and black-haired. According to the police, he is wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and white trousers. The fugitive’s height is about 190 cm.

A bang similar to an explosion was heard
According to information obtained by “Welt”, police special forces raided an apartment building in Berlin’s Schöneberg district. Around 1:10 AM, a sound similar to an explosion was heard on Bissingzeile street, at Abdul B.’s registered residence.
Police officers had entered the building before this noise was heard.
Soon, a person wearing a helmet was seen tearing a curtain from a first-floor window.
At the same time, additional forces of officers armed with automatic rifles arrived.
Special forces left the building around 1:25 AM.
No one was apprehended, as nothing was found at the scene.

Boasted about attack plans
According to “Welt”, the distance between the address on Bissingzeile street and the suspect’s car found in Tiergarten Park is only about 1.2 kilometers.

According to “Welt”, a police operation also took place on Wildenbruchstraße street, where the suspect’s sister lives.
Early on Sunday morning, several teenagers and young men waited outside the apartment building until they were allowed to re-enter the cordoned-off building. One of them told “Welt” that Abdul B. lived there with several siblings and his mother.
The same man stated that Abdul B. had boasted about alleged attack plans a few months ago and spoke about his dissatisfaction with the situation in Germany.
Other young people from the same group tried to prevent the man telling these stories from speaking too openly with the journalist.
Crashed into the crowd
15min reminds that the incident occurred in Tiergarten Park in Berlin, near the famous Brandenburg Gate, on Saturday before 10 PM local time.
“The driver of a white car reportedly hit several people… there are many injured, including several whose injuries are life-threatening,” police announced on social media.

An AFP journalist at the scene saw at least 10 emergency service vehicles and a tent set up on the road. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the incident a “horrific act” and promised a thorough investigation.
