Great Britain and its NATO allies will face a direct confrontation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the coming months. According to the Daily Mail, citing intelligence sources, Putin plans to “test” Andy Burnham’s new government while Donald Trump focuses on Iran.

The publication emphasizes that Moscow is already trying to deplete Great Britain’s resources by diverting its “shadow” fleet of oil tankers around the English Channel – one of their ships was already detained there last month by Royal Marines.
However, there is now a threat that Moscow may resort to much more serious provocations.
“There is currently a strong belief that Putin is preparing for some direct confrontation with NATO in the next few months. This is due to several factors – the belief that Trump’s attention is diverted by Iran, and signs of disagreements in the Ukrainian leadership,” noted one of the publication’s sources.
At the same time, according to a Daily Mail source, Putin’s frustration with the course of the war in Ukraine also played a role: “There is a feeling that if he [Putin] somehow fails to change the situation on the battlefield, the war will be lost.”
He added that a change of government in the United Kingdom would also force the Russian president to “try to test Burnham and see if he can exploit any differences between the old and new administrations.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Russia seeks to deploy another 30,000 troops and missile launchers from North Korea to fight against his country.
Preparations to receive additional forces are underway in Russia’s Voronezh region, near the border with Ukraine, Zelenskyy announced on social media.
North Korea sent thousands of troops in 2024 to help Russia repel Ukraine’s counteroffensive in the Kursk region. Since 2022, the country has also supplied weaponry for Russia’s invasion.
According to South Korean data, about 2,000 North Korean soldiers have already died in the war.
“Russia wants to get another 30,000 troops from North Korea. Since June, preparations to receive them have been underway in Russia’s Voronezh region,” Zelenskyy wrote on the “X” platform.
“North Korea is also preparing to transfer additional ballistic missile launchers to Russia. This is a threat not only to Ukraine. Russia is helping North Korea learn to wage war, improve its weaponry, and gain real combat experience using it,” he added.
“All of this is a threat to everyone in Asia who is within the range of North Korean missiles,” the Ukrainian president stated.
Both countries signed a military aid agreement in 2024, and North Korea this week, during the visit of its foreign minister Choe Son Hui to Moscow, once again reaffirmed its support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Pyongyang “expressed unwavering support for all domestic and foreign policies of the Russian Federation aimed at eliminating the causes of the Ukrainian conflict and defending its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international justice,” North Korea’s state news agency KCNA reported after the talks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a video released before Choe Son Hui’s visit, expressed gratitude for North Korea’s support.
In exchange for military aid, North Korea receives cash, military technology, food, and energy resources, which help it overcome international sanctions over its nuclear program.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev told Russian President Vladimir Putin that he still does not understand the reason for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, adding that it is necessary to “freeze the conflict based on the Istanbul agreements.”
“Perhaps it would be worthwhile to freeze this conflict and return to the Istanbul formula 2.0, as significant results were achieved there. And then – of course, with guarantees from major powers, including Russia – to move forward,” the Kazakh president stated.

He added that the nature of Russia’s war against Ukraine “is not entirely clear to many, including us.”
“Let’s say there was a conflict, including a frozen conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, then the essence of this conflict, its origins, were completely clear to us. They reached the very depths of history. However, in this case, it is very difficult to understand,” the Kazakh president stated.
He said he decided to speak out because he was receiving “many signals” about Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“I will not hide that I receive many signals. I informed you about them by phone. From Europe, from the United States (we receive – ed.) signals related to the current situation of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia,” the Kazakh president said.
Iran accuses Ukraine of strike against ship in Caspian Sea

Iran on Saturday accused Ukraine of carrying out an attack on one of its merchant ships in the Caspian Sea, which killed one sailor and injured another.
Tehran warned that this incident would not go unanswered.
The accusations came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv had carried out long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea against ships carrying military cargo related to Iran.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that during the attack carried out on Saturday morning, the ship “exploded, killing one sailor and injuring another,” the official news agency IRNA reported.
The Islamic Republic emphasized that it “never interfered in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
On Saturday, Zelenskyy stated on social media that the armed forces achieved “very strong results during long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea, including ships used for military cargo related to Iran, and a warship.”
In turn, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) reported on its Telegram channel that drone attacks were aimed at “cargo ships subject to international sanctions, which were used to transport military cargo between Iran and Russia.”
According to Iranian state television, the Foreign Ministry on Saturday summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran to protest this “hostile and criminal act.”
Furthermore, during a conversation with the European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the EU and the United Nations (UN) Security Council to “react strongly” to this attack, IRNA added.
Russia launched an attack on Kyiv

During the night, Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv – fires broke out in several districts of the city.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that during the attacks, a warehouse, 10 passenger cars and a truck in a parking lot, and a four-story abandoned building burned down.
All fires were extinguished, and casualties were avoided.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote that debris fell on an 18-story building, causing a fire on the 7th and 8th floors of the building.
