“Difficult hours await, because, although the temperature has dropped, we do not know exactly how the wind will change, what its strength will be,” the prime minister said.
Spanish firefighters hope to contain wildfires raging near the capital on Saturday, but officials warned that volatile winds could spread the fires further.

Spain and France evacuated more than 160,000 people as fires continued to rage near Madrid and Bordeaux in western France on Saturday. The French army was deployed to fight the worst wildfire the country has ever seen.
Large fires have been burning for two or three days, with hundreds of firefighters battling them around the clock, to the point of complete exhaustion.

Both countries have asked the European Union (EU) for help.
